Building my own tailor-made tour
or safari
When you spot a tour or perhaps a couple of safari lodges that
you fancy, we recommend also checking out the FAQ’s
and General Information
sections. This is where you will find hints on when to travel
and what to expect.
When you’re ready, send in a request form, email us or
give us a ring. You can also compile a wishlist of accommodation
or tours that you like and it will be emailed to us with your
request form.
If you need more advice, we will discuss your holiday with you
and ask about your accommodation preferences, how active you
wish to be, any special interests, how you want to travel and
what you are looking for from your holiday. We will then propose
an itinerary to suit your needs.
You then indicate any changes you want to make and we go back
and forth until you are happy with the arrangements. Then you
complete and send us your booking form. At that point we will
make firm bookings for you. You may like to check out the Health
and Visas section. See Confirming my
booking and Payment for further details. |

Finding a specific (or pre-arranged)
tour or safari on the site
Our website has over 140 pre-arranged tours and safaris which are
arranged by country and also by holiday type. You can check the date
of departure, the price and sometimes the availability. When you’ve
found something that interests you, you can either add it to your
wishlist or mention the tour in the comments field when you click Contact
Us. Please let
us know whether you want us to (provisionally) book or confirm the
tour.
One of our consultants will then contact you to take the booking further. Once you are happy with the arrangements, you complete and sign the final confirmation or booking form, and send us your deposit. At that point we will make firm bookings for you. You may like to check out the Health
and Visas section. See Confirming
my booking and Payment for further details. |

Finding my way around this website
• You can browse by Destination (using the side menu or the Maps)• This is probably the best method if you are keen to visit certain places or are particularly interested in specific accommodation. Within each area we list some of our preferred hotels and lodges and our tours which visit that area.
• You can browse by Holiday Type (using the side menu).
• You can use our Holiday search to source a shortlist of holiday tours which would be perfect for you. • You can use our search function (on the homepage) and search for particular places or keywords such as the name of a game lodge or tour. • You can use our site map to get an overall sense of the site
A note about our currency converter:
This allows you to view all the prices in this website in a variety of currencies. Choose the one that you are most familiar with and you can get an immediate sense of what costs what! Click
here for a little more detail.

Using the Wish List function
As you go through the site looking at our sample pre-arranged tours, hotels, lodges and safari camps, you will notice the Add
to Wishlist button. If you click on this button, the tour or accommodation will be added to your wish list. You will see this list when you then click on Contact Us to send your request. We will then use this list, together with your comments, to create the ideal holiday for you.. |

Guidelines for safari and holiday budgets
This is a tricky one. It’s important to have an idea of what you’d like to spend as it helps us to see whether your budget fits well with your plans. Please bear in mind the following pointers.
• Self-drive holidays are the most cost-effective, though many of our clients choose to stay in the best hotels and combine this with self-drive for greatest flexibility. If someone chooses the accommodation they want, combine this with self-drive would be the less expensive, followed by mixing transfers and scheduled tours, followed by a private tour for a small party of 4 to 6 followed by a private tour for just 2 people. The most expensive option would be to use private charter flights extensively throughout a country (though the occasional charter flight to a safari destination is within most people’s budget).
• If you are on a budget and still want an escorted tour, then we would suggest one of two options. Either taking a scheduled tour with a minibus or small coach if you are interested in South Africa, or taking a mobile tented safari if you are in Namibia or Botswana. With scheduled tours please bear in mind that you will have less choice with routings and with type of accommodation. These tours tend to travel fairly fast staying 1 or 2 nights at each hotel.
• Where and when you stay on safari has a huge impact on the overall cost of your holiday. A reputable Safari lodge will range from R1,400 in low season up to over R7,000 per person per night. This is a huge variation so it really helps us if you know how much you want to spend on your safari. Some people choose to spend more here to ensure the best possible experience and then stay in more moderate hotels and guest lodges elsewhere. We recommend that you set aside at least R2,200 per person per night if you can (SA safaris). This will give you a good choice in some excellent Big 5 reserves.
Starting point for:
A self-drive holiday using moderate hotels – R550 per person per day (excluding safari days)
A mix of transfers and scheduled day tours – R900 per person per day
A South African safari – R1,400 up to R7,000 per person per day (see notes above)
An escorted tour – R1,100 per person per day
A private tour with 4+ people – R1,100 per person per day
A private tour with only 2 people – R1,700 per person per day

Booking flights if using our SA office
If you are buying a flight from the UK, click on our Booking
Flights page
If you are using our SA office, we assume that your international flights will be arranged by yourselves, via a travel agent or flight consolidator in your country. We can book all your domestic and regional flights. We can also book international flights if required but we usually find it will be cheaper to buy it in your home country.
We quote on apex (discounted) fares on your various domestic and regional flights. However, these seats need to be paid within 24 hours of making the reservation to ensure the seats. If you cancel or change your flight reservation on apex fares, there will be cancellation penalties or amendment charges. If you require greater flexibility with your flights, we recommend that we hold full economy seats for you. We can always try to get an apex fare once your plans are firmer. |

Our Prices and the Currency Convertor
Our prices are set at “rack rate” or less. What does this mean? Simply put, it means that you will not pay less if you book directly with the lodge. How do we make some money? Given the volume of business that we give our suppliers we have negotiated special rates and we make our money on the difference. But YOU gain by having no availability or booking hassles, expert advice, assistance with itinerary planning and detailed documentation.
By default, our prices are shown in South African Rand. If you book with the South African office for South Africa or Namibia, then your price will be as shown on the website in the default currency. If you enquire about a tour in any other country, then our South African office will quote your holiday price in the applicable currency (most often US dollars). In the rare event that a price needs to be updated, you will be advised at the time that you book.
The currencies used to set prices are:
South Africa: ZAR R
Namibia: NAM $ (pegged to same value as ZAR R)
East Africa & rest of Southern Africa: USD $
Mauritius Varies: MAU Rp, EUR €, GBP £
Seychelles Varies: EUR €, USD $, GBP £
We provide a currency converter as an aid; so that you can get an idea of what our prices might represent in various alternative currencies. To change the currency, simply click the appropriate currency symbol at the top right of the page. On clicking one of these symbols, the page you are on currently will refresh with all prices displayed in your chosen currency. However, exchange rates can change daily and all prices should be treated as indicative only.
At the UK office, our credit card merchant agreements are for transactions in £ Sterling. Our flight prices are also in sterling too. So your holiday price will be quoted to you in £ Sterling, based on the current rate of exchange. This will be valid for 7 days from the time that we quote you.
At the SA office, our credit card merchant agreements are for transactions in South African Rand. If we have quoted you in Dollars or Euros, your credit card will be processed using the exchange rate on the processing day. |

Confirming my booking
and payment
When you have the itinerary that you want, let us know that you are ready to book. We will go ahead and make bookings on your behalf. At this stage we will need you to complete and sign the final confirmation, or our booking form, and we will also need a non-refundable deposit. Only on receipt of this deposit will your holiday be confirmed. If you are booking less than eight weeks before travel, then we will need full payment at the time of booking.
You can pay your deposit and final payment in one of two ways:
• Pay it directly into our bank account (details will be on
our invoice).
• You can send us your credit card details.

Arranging Travel Insurance
We cannot overemphasize the importance of your taking out adequate holiday insurance against cancellation charges, unexpected curtailment, medical expenses, repatriation, emergency air evacuation and personal liability claims against you, and we make it a condition of accepting your booking. If you are resident in the UK, see Travel
Insurance Rates & Conditions.
If you are travelling from outside the UK, email the South African Office for an insurance quotation, or arrange for travel insurance in your home country..
