Ngala Private Game Reserve lies in the southern part of the Timbavati Game Reserve bordering the Kruger National Park. In fact Ngala Tented Camp lies only 3km from the Kruger. Meaning 'Lion' in the Shangaan language, Ngala is home to several prides of these majestic cats as well as large herds of elephant. Cheetah and wild dog also regularly move through the 14,700ha reserve.
Ngala Tented Camp is a sophisticated tented camp with six deluxe tents on raised platforms with secluded wooden decks. Here the romance of canvas with flickering lanterns lighting the camp grounds, flawlessly combines simple elegance with sophistication. Outdoor showers, deep baths, air conditioning and electric blankets create comfort in an exceptional natural setting overlooking the seasonal Timbavati riverbed. The tents have wooden sides with gauze screen windows so that delicate breezes from the bushveld will keep you cool. Ngala Tented Camp has a very light eco-footprint as existing trees were cleverly incorporated into the design.
Surrounded by a timber deck, the lap pool merges with the contours of the river bank and offers the perfect place to relax in the heat of the day and even do a spot of indolent game-viewing from the comfort of your sun lounger.
Dining at Ngala Tented Camp is always an event with lunch offered at the pool or on the viewing decks, whilst their al fresco dinners in the dry riverbed are quite magical.
Renowned for its exceptional Big Five game viewing, Ngala Tented Camp offers exhilarating twice-daily game drives in 4x4 safari vehicles and interpretive bush walks. This is complemented by the nearby hide for bird-watching and photography, star-gazing, moonlit riverbed dinners and bush sundowners.
The Ngala experience offers exhilarating game drives in your own private vehicle, accompanied by a specialist ranger and tracker. You will also track rhino on foot; enjoy interpretative bush walks and savour mouth-watering Pan African menus in a variety of intimate settings. The Ngala experience also offers an unforgettable helicopter adventure over the Blyde River Canyon as well as a sleep out option in the middle of the bush.
