Situated in the undoubtedly beautiful Limpopo Province, in the heart of the Waterberg biosphere, Kololo Game Reserve is the perfect safari destination. Malaria-free, child friendly, Fair Trade Certified and home to a large variety of game! Enjoy a drink on one of the viewing decks in the restaurant with beautiful views on the Big 5 area.
Partially integrated into Welgevonden Game Reserve, Kololo offers the Big 5 experience in combination with comfortable value for money accommodation.
In some ways it offers the best of both worlds. It lies in its own Kololo wildlife reserve where only safe wildlife roams free. This means you can enjoy family safaris, bush walks, mountain-biking. There are many walking/biking trails from 2 to 15km.
Yet it also has a private gate which offers direct access into Welgevonden Game Reserve. So you can enjoy a big five safari during a guided Welgevonden game drive. You can choose between a 3 hour morning drive. Or - at an extra cost - a longer 6 hour drive or a guided bush walk in the Welgevonden.
One complimentary activity is included per overnight stay. Choose from a 3 hour morning or evening game drive in the Welgevonden, a Kololo game drive, a guided walk on Kololo or a starry night drive (seasonal)
Kololo regularly organises a breakfast or dinner in the bush. By foot, mountain bike or vehicle, you will be brought to an idyllic spot in the bush where everything is prepared for a superb breakfast or a sumptious ''braai'.
Kololo also offers the opportunity to discover the beauty of the Waterberg on horseback through Savannah Horse Trails (at an extra cost)
Childen can enjoy a kids safari. The Kololo ranger will accompany your child on a bushveld expedition, teaching them about nature in a fun and interactive way. A wide variety of activities is combined to make their stay more exciting. All kids receive a safari pack which includes juice, some snacks and an interactive safari booklet. They can use this booklet while they observe, learn and play out on the safari expedition.
Kololo offers a wide range of accommodation which varies in standard. Discover the wildlife from the comfort of your private terrace.
Five chalets are close to the restaurant and swimming pool. Some are hidden in the lush African bush; others overlook the beautiful lawns, surrounded by age old Syringa trees. Each chalet has a bedroom with twin beds, en-suite bathroom with shower, separate toilet, television, and a covered veranda with outdoor furniture and braai facilities. These offer comfortable but simple accommodation.
There are two 2-bedroom chalets which are ideal for families or two couples. Each bedroom is en suite and they have a covered veranda, sitting room with television and fully-equipped kitchen.
There are four 3-bedroom superior chalets. They lie on the edge of Kololo with beautiful views over the mountains of Grootfontein and Welgevonden and the plains of Kololo where you can see an abundance of wildlife. They have three bedrooms, all en suite, a spacious living area with open fireplace and television and fully-equipped kitchen. Outside there's a spacious terrace with barbecue.
Finally there is the deluxe 3-bedroom King Villa. As well as 3 bedrooms all en suite, lounge and kitchen, it also has a private swimming pool and boma. The terrace under the thatched roof offer great views across Kololo and Welgevonden.
Kololo is one of the most affordable places to stay in the Welgevonden area. It is more relaxed than most of the private lodges that we normally use.
It is unusual for two reasons. Firstly their meal basis is Dinner, bed & breakfast and one activity. Which contrasts with the more normal full board and all game activities. These means that it can be more affordable. It is also ideal for an overnight stay especially if you may be arriving too late for an afternoon drive.
You can choose between a 3 hour drive into the Welgevonden. OR, if you stay 2 nights, you can enjoy a 6 hour drive with a picnic breakfast. This leaves at 6am and returns just prior to lunch.
Secondly, they have a choice of 2, 4 and 6 sleeper chalets so it's ideal for families. I wasnt crazy about the standard rooms as they are rather small. But the superior chalets are very nice and good for our clients looking for an affordable and flexible option. So great for multi-generational groups that want to be together and on budget.
