Shumba Camp lies in the northern part of the Busanga Plains in Kafue National Park, close to permanent water and within easy access of the teeming wildlife on the floodplains. Shumba is named after a favourite species in the area: prides of lion sometimes up to 20 strong!
Shumba Camp comprises six spacious luxury safari tents on raised platforms with breathtaking views of the surrounding plains. One is a family tent which can sleep four comfortably. Shumba Camp is the most luxurious of all Kafue's camps with extensive use of glass offering expansive views, and Zambia’s unique take on bush glamour. Rooms are generous and exquisite with luxurious modern fittings. They all have an especially inviting outside lounge area overlooking the plains so that you don’t even need to leave your room to enjoy game-viewing on the plains.
Almost organic in design and constructed in natural materials, Shumba Camp is designed to disappear into the bush environment that is Africa. The dining area is elevated, making the best of the wide-angle views. Dinner takes place either here or in the lantern-lit boma. The camp’s fig trees ensure both shade and constant bird activity.
Great emphasis has been placed on the guided Safari experience at Shumba Camp - led by qualified, enthusiastic guides with in-depth knowledge of the Kafue area and its wildlife. You have the option of game drives in and around the Busanga Plains and even water-based activities when the Plains are still flooded in the early season. Night drives provide the added excitement of the nocturnal species of the Kafue area. The Busanga Plains offers large herds of plains game and their predators, including leopard, wild dog, cheetah and the impressive prides of lion. Sizeable herds of roan antelope, buffalo, blue wildebeest, puku and red lechwe are also part of the everyday scene at Shumba Camp giving the true Zambian experience.
