The granite domes of the Matobo hills in Zimbabwe are among the most majestic rock landscapes in the world. Nestled in this unique setting is Camp Amalinda.
The lodge is built around some of the granite boulders of the mystical Matobo Hills in a former ancient Bushman's shelter. The lounge and library enjoys these panoramic views of the surrounding Matobo Hills.
Delicious meals are served on a massive teak table in the open air dining room. The cosy library contains some of the old African classics. Whilst a secluded chess room, located amongst the tree tops guarantees peace and tranquillity. For the wine connoisseur, we recommend a visit to our natural cave wine cellar. Enjoy sundowners around a warm fire in the enclosed boma area. The impressive rock swimming pool with comfortable loungers and a pool bar overlooks an active waterhole.
Stone steps link the seven thatched rooms and two honeymoon suites. The surrounding boulders are incorporated into their unique design. All have expansive views over the vast rock swimming pool to the hills beyond.
Wildlife is quite plentiful in the Matobo Hills and includes high concentrations of leopard and black eagle. Activities at Camp Amalinda include game viewing by horseback, by 4x4 vehicle and on foot in the National Park as well as visits to the many San (Bushmen) rock paintings. Ancient rock art records the hopes, trials and tribulations of the ancient San Bushmen. Enjoy a guided walk to explore the sites. Or visit under your own steam.
The Heritage Spa at Camp Amalinda has a unique setting. Nowhere else can you lie under a canopy of rocks that emanate an energy which is almost tangible. Drift away on crisp linen, whilst enjoying massages and treatments by their masseuse with the gentle scents of African aromatic oils in the air.
Camp Amalinda welcomes children and it is in a malaria-free zone. Kids can spend their days rock climbing and chasing rock lizards and giant plated lizards.
