The attractive 4 star Royal Palissandre Hotel & Spa is one of the more modern of the Tana hotels and is one of our favourites for an overnight stay. It has a pleasant hillside setting overlooking the ‘City of Thousands’. The hotel is an attractive building with rose-coloured brickwork, Mantasoa stonework, and copious use of rosewood and marble in the interior.
You can easy walk down the many steps into the bustling market below and then across to the haute-ville area of town. But it will be a steep hike back up all the steps at the end of your walking tour so you may prefer to get a taxi back.
The hotel has a good restaurant, La Table des Hautes Terres, which is on a terrace with views over the city. It serves a mix of French and Madagascan cuisine. There’s also a popular cocktail bar with entertainment on selected evenings. The terrace offers stunning views over the city, especially at sunset when all the multi-coloured houses are lit up by the evening rays. Breakfast and lunch are also served on the terrace which overlooks the vibey Tana streets.
The Palissandre Hotel has 46 simply furnished, spacious and well appointed rooms. All have air conditioning, polished wooden floors, safe, minibar, TV, wifi, telephone and full bathroom with bath and shower. Families are welcome with triple or inter-connecting rooms available. There are also some luxury rooms which are larger (but the standard rooms are of a good size).
Unusually for Madagascar, the Royal Palissandre Hotel has a lovely Spa area with a swimming pool, Hammam and gym – just what you need in the middle of a busy Madagascar holiday.
