Kapamba Bush camp is the furthest south of all the camps of The Bush Camp Company and one of the most remote in the South Luangwa National Park. Set on the banks of the tranquil, spring-fed river by the same name, Kapamba Bush Camp is surrounded by some of the park’s richest wildlife. Watching an elephant take a dip in the river can be quite an experience when you’re lounging in your own private plunge pool.

Accommodation

The central bar and dining room is positioned under matumi and sausage trees, with a wide deck that stretches out with views of the Kapamba river. Sundowners can be enjoyed in the middle of the river itself with your feet dipped in the cool, crystal shallow water.

The charm and romance of Kapamba Bush Camp is most obvious in its four spacious en-suite chalets. Cool, simple and utterly original, these entirely open-fronted rooms boast wide verandas with river views, twin showers and sunken stone plunge pools – the ultimate in bush indulgence. Wrought-iron shutters are drawn each evening so that you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the African night without worrying about unwanted visitors in your room whilst you sleep. Solar power provides lighting, battery charging facilities and hot water.

Kapamba Bush Camp Activities

Kapamba Bush Camp offers both walking safaris and game drives by 4x4 vehicle. Given its location on a sandy floodplain, Kapamba Bush Camp is open longer as the area doesn't get as water-logged as much of the Luangwa valley. During the wetter months you may access the camp through a southern gate, rather than via the Mfuwe bridge, and activities are even more firmly centred around walking safaris (as game drives really aren’t possible during the wet season).

Access

The Bushcamp Company operates six bush camps all varying in character and location. Transfers to Kapamba are done in the form of a long game drive en route to the lodge. Please note that this is a very long transfer (3½ hours from Mfuwe Lodge, over 4 hours from the airport) given the seclusion of the lodge. We strongly recommend either staying overnight at Mfuwe Lodge first or combining Kapamba with a slightly nearer camp such as Chamilandu. This seasonal camp has a longer season than most from April to January.
