I loved Zambezi Sands as a riverside safari camp. So if you don’t mind being quite far from the Victoria Falls, this is a stunning camp combining a beautiful location right on the Zambezi, luxurious tented suites each with their own pool ANDÂ good game-viewing opportunities. Its perfect for people who want to continue to be ‘on safari’ even whilst visiting Victoria Falls.
I particularly liked (loved!!!) the canoeing which was adventurous but accessible for many people, being in stable inflatable dinghies. We were guided by two experienced guides and even though we did go off course occasionally, they were always there to gentle get us back on track. It ended with a couple of gin and tonics at the water’s edge watching one of those stunning Zambezi sunsets. Bliss!
The room was very luxurious with a separate sitting area, indoor bathroom with ball and claw bath, bedroom and outdoor shower and second ‘loo with a view’. Outside the deck was a wonderful place to soak in the river views and the plunge pool would be perfect for hot spring and summer days…
The game-viewing was actually very good with lions, elephant and buffalo as well as lots of plains game, and we also had a lovely walk up to the ‘springs’. I was slightly disappointed by the food which was not as good as I expected, but that would be my only grumble.
So the ‘issue’ is its distance from the Falls. It is at least 60 minutes transfer time, allowing for stops for animal sightings when in the park. Ideally I would recommend that you combine it with 1 or 2Â nights in town so that you can see the Falls and do other excursions and then come onto here to enjoy the river and the park. But if you are staying three nights then you can easily visit the Victoria Falls from the lodge as a day excursion after your morning game drive and breakfast.
