Situated in Tsavo West National Park, Finch Hattons is a luxury Safari Camp rich in history and committed to conservation. Having been thoroughly refurbished, the camp reopened in 2015 and now has 17 luxury tented suites including two 2 bedroom family suites and a presidential suite (with a heated plunge pool, room for a nanny/body guard, private chef and a kitchen/pantry). The style of the camp fuses rustic with modern, creating an elegant charm. The tented suites are deliberately positioned to be surrounded by the hippo pods and the camp’s fresh water springs to bring you ever closer to the African wildlife, whilst enjoying all the luxury mod-cons indoors. The 2 bedroom family suites have two inter-connecting bedrooms and a lounge with an outdoor seating area on the deck. Children are generally accepted at Finch Hattons from the age of 6.

Power comes from a generator, which runs only at peak popular times. Torches are provided for use at times when the generator is not functioning, and a number of battery operated night lights are strategically positioned to aid night time navigation in the suite.

Activities

Exciting morning and afternoon game drives in Tsavo West are the mainstay activity, but there are plenty of other options: night drives, guided bush walks and excursions to the Mzima Springs and the Shetani Lava Flow.

There are good opportunities of spotting giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, crocodiles and an impressive range of antelope, from dik dik to Eland, waterbuck, lesser kudu and even the long necked gerenuk. Good elephant sightings are a strong possibility together with lion and leopard and even cheetah (sightings of the big cats tend to come in good blocks of days but are not continuous).

The Chyulu Hills are great for walking; one option is to take a guided hike through the forested hills. If you fancy a bit of culture, why not take a cultural visit to the Iltilal village of the Masai?

In addition to wildlife activities there is a wellness centre, spa, infinity pool, gym, yoga deck and kids activity room at Finch Hattons. Relax in your private suite or by the pool as you watch the resident Hippo’s wallow in the natural springs that flow through the camp.
