Ngoma Safari Lodge

Ngoma Safari Lodge is a luxurious lodge on the western border of Chobe National Park, within the Chobe Forest Reserve. This unique lodge is a joint community and privately-funded project in association with the Chobe Enclave Conservation Trust (CECT). What is attractive about Ngoma is that it is ‘far from the madding crowds’ which congregate around the Kasane gate giving you a more exclusive safari experience in Chobe National Park. Given the popularity of Chobe, this advantage cannot be under-estimated! Furthermore, its location within the Forest reserve means that you can enjoy bush walks with an armed ranger to explore the intricacies of the bush.
Ngoma Safari Lodge has an epic setting, perched on a hillside overlooking iconic baobab trees with beautiful views over the Chobe River and its floodplains. All 8 river facing suites have spacious bedrooms with separate living area, en suite bathroom, inside and outside shower, overhead fans, air-conditioning, mini bar, and tea/coffee facilities. In addition, each suite has a private plunge pool on its deck. Each of the suites enjoys a river view with the possibility of seeing the famous Chobe elephants, migrating zebra or buffalo grazing on the floodplain below, depending on the season. Two of the eight suites have day beds and can be used as triples if required.
Activities at Ngoma include a full day game drive into Chobe National Park which includes a sumptuous picnic lunch and ends with a boat cruise on the Chobe River. Given it lies within a private concession, game walks on the concession are also on offer with an armed guide. Shorter game drives are also on offer as well as night drives on the concession. Birding is excellent here with over 450 species in the Chobe area. Through its socially responsible programmes, the lodge aims to enrich the lives of those living within this community. You can also visit a local elder’s home for a glimpse of Botswana’s traditional lifestyle.
Ngoma Safari Lodge is a seriously good-looking and luxurious lodge (with an even better setting than Muchenje, though they are very similar). This is a highly recommended lodge if you are looking for a stylish game lodge with a very good setting in the Chobe area. The bedrooms are luxurious with private plunge pools and each enjoy the epic panoramic views over the Chobe river.
Its location is one of its big advantages. The Chobe Forest Reserve lies adjacent to Chobe National Park in the western side of the Park. The plus point is that this is a much quieter part of Chobe so that you don’t get that sense of congestion at the gate with several lodge’s safari vehicles heading into the park at the same time. This is a big plus for most of the year and especially in the busier peak months of June to October. Being in the forest reserve also means that bush walks and night drives are a possibility, which would not be on the cards if it was in the national park proper...
The only (small) downside is that they cannot do water safaris directly from the camp, because of the variable water levels in the Chobe river. Thus they offer a full day game experience starting with a leisurely morning game drive through the park back to Kasane where you enjoy a boat cruise. You then take an afternoon game drive back to the lodge arriving in the late afternoon.
