Excellent little camp, This is “yesterday” in Sabi Sabi’s theme of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow). It is styled to look like an Explorers Camp of the 1920’s or 30s. I have to confess that I didnt like it when I last visited, however I liked it much more this time around. I think because they have brought it more up to date, whilst staying with the theme.
It’s a small and exclusive camp with 6 rooms (incl a Presidential and Honeymoon suite.) The main public areas are generally semi-outside, open to sides but under cover, and are lined up along a dry river bed with a very attractive expanse of savanna plain on the opposite bank.
Before the colonial-styled bedrooms were all very frilly curtains and chintz sofas a la the 1920’s. However they have toned this down and so the rooms look good. Still 1920’s in style but the bathrooms are not old-fashioned. Naturally however you need to like this concept. If you are into modern interiors then Selati aint for you!
There’s an open plan bathroom (with enclosed loo) with a curtain to close it off from the bedroom. However they also had a curtain which enclosed the bath as well (which wasn’t really needed in my opinion). Outside each room has a small private enclosed garden area with outside bath which was a nice touch. The Presidential Suite was more as I had remembered with lots of chintz, memorablia and fussy curtains. So it wasnt for me, but its a matter of personal taste. But it was huge and came with its own plunge pool)
If you want to use the spa, you are taken to Sabi Bush Lodge spa which is 20-25 mins drive away.
