Coot Club is home to an eclectic mix of traditional stone cottages and contemporary-line boathouses that keep within the strict regulations that make Stanford so charming. The accommodation at Coot Club does nothing to detract from the natural environment. The Boathouses in particular make the most of the magnificent views across the lagoon to the imposing Maanschynkop mountains.
With a nod to the sailing fraternities; the Boathouses, Port and Starboard, are fabulous nautical-themed homes ideal for relaxed holidays on the water. The Stone Cottages retain the charm of a typical stone building tucked into the Milkwood forests with beautiful outdoor seating areas.
Complete flexibility is offered with the Clubhouse, located in a historic Spookhuis, and al fresco dining under the spreading branches of the 400-year-old milkwoods. Enjoy breakfast from 8 to 11am and from 11am the Clubhouse offers an a la carte lunch menu of light eats. Food is kept simple but authentic in the relaxed spirit of Coot Club: BBQ roast chickens in the Weber Grill, pizzas cooked in the wood-fire oven, refreshing salads, homemade burgers and the like. An hour before sunset the ship’s bell is rung, followed by sundowners on the jetty. Here the dinner menu of the day is shared.
Amble along the walking trails through the fynbos, looking for animal tracks; hire a fat bike to explore the sandy pathways and dirt tracks leading to Walker Bay Beach; cycle into Stanford village; sand-board down the dunes on the beach; kick a ball around on the sprawling lawns; play volleyball or boules; or cosy up with a selection of board games, table tennis and table football. Several kayaks are available for guest use. With the Maanschynkop mountains as your ever-green backdrop, this is the best way to explore the lagoon, silently gliding alongside crested coots and yellow-billed ducks.
