Amakhala Bush Lodge in the 7,500ha Amakhala Game Reserve, about one hour from Port Elizabeth, offers malaria-free game viewing in the Eastern Cape. 'Amakhala' is named after the Xhosa word meaning ‘aloe’, the prolific indigenous plant found in this uniquely diverse province. Steeped in history and beauty, this game reserve creates an ideal environment for an unforgettable safari and an intimate experience of the varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushman's River.
Amakhala Bush Lodge is a tented safari lodge combining the romance of tented suites with an authentic safari lodge feel with big sky views. Bush Lodge is set in an open valley flanked by rolling hills and lush riverine vegetation. The lodge's lounge, bar and outdoor fire pit face the waterhole. Each of the five canvas and thatch safari suites share this view and come equipped with private sitting area, air-conditioning, fireplace with a large viewing deck with your own private plunge pool and outdoor shower. The semi-open plan bathrooms offer bath, shower and enclosed toilet.
The scenery is truly spectacular and you can enjoy the landscape from every possible angle - open vehicle game drives, bush walks, sun-downer canoe safaris and a cheese and wine boat cruise. There’s also a spa treatment room for some pampering between game drives.
Amakhala Bush Lodge is an owner-run lodge with friendly charming hosts, Rod and Tracy Weeks.
