Botlierskop Private Game Reserve lies in the rolling bushveld on the western edge of the Garden Route close to Mossel Bay. Here you have an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with rhino, lion, buffalo, giraffe and rare black impala, amongst others, in exhilarating open vehicle game drives, bush walks and on horseback.
The Tented Lodge has 15 spacious tented suites that lie close to the Moordkuil river. Your elegantly furnished tented suite has a soft colonial feel with mahogany furniture, big oval stone bath, writing desk, minibar, telephone, leather suitcases and four poster bed. It's very pleasant to lie on your sun lounger on the private wooden deck and soak up the view. The original farm house has been converted to four air-conditioned suites, aptly called the Manor House.
Traditional African dinners are served in an elegant thatched roof restaurant. Beforehand you are entertained by African drummers around the camp fire. Nearby there is a stunning rimflow swimming pool with open views over the bush below.
Botlierskop offers a full range of bush activities. If you love the smaller things in nature, guided bush walks amidst beautiful country are packed with information. Two hour horseback safaris through the reserve are also on offer, for both beginners and more experienced riders. An additional exhilarating highlight at Botlierskop are the optional helicopter flips over the game reserve and the surrounding beaches and Indian Ocean.
Please note that Botlierskop Game Reserve does not offer an exclusive wilderness experience. Though it offers a good quality game viewing, their lions are newly established in the reserve and therefore separated from some wildlife such as the rare Black Impala. Also their elephant are rehabilitated animals which are used to some human contact. The kids would be thrilled to see the lion and elephant and there will be enough game to satisfy adults as well.
However what Botlierskop does offer is a range of different game activities from game drives to river cruises, to horse riding to helicopter game-viewing! This means it’s perfect for active families as there are always new activities to experience, especially if you are not sure that the kids will like the ‘two solid 3 hour game drives a day’ approach. Botlierskop Tented Lodge accepts children over 6 years and there are two spacious Family Suites which have sofa couches which can accommodate up to 3 children, as well as a mini-bar and tea & coffee facilities. The Manor House accepts younger children, and also has a Family Suite
