Denis Island Lodge offers a private tropical island getaway on the inner islands of the Seychelles. It has few rivals. Denis Island Lodge is an enchanted Seychelles coral island set in a sapphire sea. This 375 acres private island lies 95km north of Mahe. It was named after Captain Denis de Trobriand who discovered it in 1773. It has two long stretches of white sandy beach fringed by lush tropical vegetation, coconut palms and casuarina trees and offers true relaxation and tranquility. Here you can enjoy the barefoot luxury of authentic, island living. If you are into birding or want to see some of Seychelles famous fauna, such as the giant tortoises, Denis Private Island Lodge is the perfect spot for you with a tremendous ongoing conservation effort to ensure the flora and fauna for future generations.The flights to the lodge take approx 30 minutes and are on selected days of the week.
The concept of accommodation at Denis Private Island Lodge is that of a private island estate where you are invited to kick off your shoes and immerse yourself in relaxed island living.
There’s a choice of 25 roomy air-conditioned beachfront cottages, well-spaced to ensure privacy, among the coconut trees on either side of the main building, all facing the sea.
All the air-conditioned cottages are decorated with understated elegance with a comfortable Creole ambience. No keys, televisions or mobile phones on Denis Island! Each has its own private sea-facing veranda with the soft powdery sand just steps away with sun loungers at the ready. Inside is a king-sze bed with mosquito net, sitting area, ceiling fan, IPOD docking station, writing desk, telephone, tea/coffee facilities, minibar and an open plan bathroom with shower and double basin opening onto a private courtyard. These range in size and hence price.
As well as the cottages, there is one Family Suite (170m²) which has a bedroom, sitting room (which doubles as a second bedroom), dining area, outside veranda and full bathroom. There are also two massive beach villas (325m²) which can take a family of four.
Facilities at Denis Private Island Lodge include the swimming pool, an open bar lounge, wine cellar, TV and games room with billiards and board games. Outside there’s a tennis court and volleyball. There are plenty of nature trails and a designated jogging trail round the island. Spa treatments can now be taken in the privacy of your own garden courtyard.
Wander through the forest on the many nature trails enjoying the calls of land & sea birds and discover the island’s flora. Join our resident experts on a bird feeding or nature tour, or for a presentation on the island’s history, wildlife or conservation projects. Visit the Old Village craft workshops, farm and the giant tortoise colony. The pace is unhurried on Denis Island, going with the flow and savouring the moment.
Alternatively enjoy a game of tennis, snooker or a chess challenge in the Library, canoeing around the island or snorkeling in the lagoon.
The main pastimes on Denis Island are diving, snorkelling and fishing. The Dive Centre offers a range of dive excursions for experienced or new divers. Denis Island is one of the best areas for diving in the Seychelles with its lagoon full of triggerfish, clownfish, parrotfish, rays and even gliding turtles along the coral reef.
Denis Island is one of the Inner Islands but it is right on the edge of the Seychelles bank which drops some 2000 metres into the turquoise Indian Ocean teeming with big game fish. Fishing charters in comfortable and well equipped are available from the lodge on a daily basis.

Denis Island Lodge is particularly known for its good food. The restaurant serves an array of both local creole dishes and international cuisine in its sea front restaurant. Much of the fresh produce used has been grown on the island’s own farm and vegetable gardens. There’s an interactive ‘show’ kitchen so that you can follow what happening whilst outside you can opt for some alfresco dining by candlelight on the deck. Sometimes beach barbeques are on offer.
