Elsa’s Kopje

Elsa's Kopje is a luxurious and romantic oasis in the beautiful Meru National Park of Kenya. It was named after Elsa, the orphaned lioness made famous by George and Joy Adamson. Close by the lodge, Elsa's descendants still hunt the shy but plentiful plains game. This award winning lodge has to have one of the most beautiful settings in Kenya high on Mughwango Hill, blending seamlessly into the rocky crags of the natural landscape. It shares its hillside home with plenty of bush babies and hyrax (rock dassies).
The main lodge at Elsa's Kopje has an open bar, lounge and dining room with a particularly inviting infinity pool enjoying the endless views over the bush.
Each of the six cottages is uniquely built into the rocky landscape, each with a large bedroom, open sitting area/veranda with its own breath-taking view of the plains. Fabulous semi-open en suite bathrooms are hewn into the rock. The cottages face across seemingly endless savanna, fringed with doum palms and crisscrossed by 13 rivers.
Nearby the two-bedroom Elsa's Kopje Private House is a stylish private retreat with two en suite bedrooms, one with king size bed and one with twin beds, a living/dining area which leads out into its own private garden with good sized swimming pool. This is ideal for families or two couples travelling together.
There are three Honeymoon Suites at Elsa's Kopje. One of which is a triple level room, with bedroom, en suite bathroom and private deck. With its breathtaking views, this is most definitely Elsa's 'pride' and lives up to the architectural 'wow' that characterizes the design of Elsa's Kopje. The other two Suites can also easily accommodate an extra bed for children under 16 years, a rather unconventional use of a Honeymoon suite!
A recent addition to Elsa's Kopje is the Family Cottage. The Family Cottage has open views of the park and two generously sized bedrooms, both en- suite, living room, large private deck and an outdoor bath by the master bedroom.
Enjoy bush walks, game drives, bush breakfasts, sundowners and night drives in the Meru National Park. As the only lodge IN the Meru, you have the whole park to yourselves. (Meru National Park is the same size as the Masai Mara but with only 50 beds in the park instead of 4000 beds. This gives you some idea of the exclusivity.) As well as plains game, hippo, giraffe, lion, elephant and rhino are regularly sighted. Indeed there is a special Rhino sanctuary within Meru to protect both white and black rhino. You can also enjoy day excursions to Tana river with a picnic lunch, line fishing for catfish and barbell. Back at the lodge, a masseuse is on hand if you fancy a massage in between game activities.
