Luxury
The Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort is a lush resort on the less developed south coast of Mauritius in an unspoilt area of the island with 300 metres of golden beach to enjoy overlooking a turquoise lagoon. This deluxe five star hotel is a marriage of classical and contemporary chic and aims to create the perfect balance between luxury, simplicity and friendliness.
The Heritage hotels of Awali & Le Telfair, are quite unique in Mauritius in that they offer a high-end all-inclusive stay: including a daily Seven Colours spa treatment, wine and spirits including French champagne, green fees on the 18 hole championship golf course, selected water sports and a variety of entertainment.
154 generous deluxe rooms (52m²) are decorated with simple classical lines and open onto a spacious terrace or balcony, with delightful views mostly of the gardens. 48 of these are ocean facing and 15 have a beach front location. Each has air conditioning, ceiling fan, bathroom with bath and shower, safe, mini-bar, tea/coffee facilities, flat screen satellite TV, and internet access. Each of these rooms is suitable for two adults and two children (or one teenager). Five senior suites have beach and lagoon views with a generous 100m² available. They have a separate sitting/dining room, DVD player, espresso machine and Jacuzzi bath. The magnificent Heritage Awali Villa (310m²) is a haven of peace and tranquillity with two en suite bedrooms, a children’s room with extra bathroom, living room, dining room, private gardens and swimming pool.
There are three swimming pools as well as a pool at the Kids Club (open for children between 4 and 11 years) which also has numerous supervised activities, and there’s also a teen club for 12 to 17 year olds.
There is a variety of bars and restaurants at Heritage Awali. The Balafon is the main restaurant – very romantic surrounded by mirror ponds. Infinity Blue is the beach restaurant serving traditional Mauritian dishes and seafood specialities in the evening and the 7 Colours Restaurant at the Spa focuses on healthy options. Amafrooty has a great casual beach setting for lunch. The Boma is an open air family friendly African restaurant serving fire-grilled meat and fish with and African dance show.
Over at the golf course, the Chateau de Bel Ombre, dating from the 18th century, is a vast colonial mansion with high ceilings, antique furniture and wooden floors: the ideal setting for a romantic dinner. (There’s also a second restaurant at the golf estate for light lunches after a round of golf).
However the two main attractions at the Heritage are the spa and the golf course.
One of the major attractions of the Heritage Awali Golf & Spa Resort is of course the 18 hole Peter Matkovitch designed golf course.
Lying between the mountains and the Indian Ocean, this spectacular international golf course is built on more than 100 acres of land. The par 72 course is both technically challenging and varied offering an enjoyable game for all layers with lakes, streams and tropical trees decorating the undulating course. The magnificent Château of Bel Ombre and its gardens have been incorporated into the design of the golf course.
Golfers enjoy an amazing view over the lagoon to the south on one side of the course and towards the hills of the Black River Gorge nature reserve on the other side, with unique panoramic views at each hole.
Facilities at the Heritage golf course include a putting green, a chipping green and a driving range as well as a restaurant and bar. Golf carts and caddies are provided for golfers. Two golf professionals offer beginners lessons which can be videoed for extra learning potential.
The Seven Colours spa offers personalised treatments that rebalance your energies using the Seven Colours rituals. It has an Africa-inspired décor with earthy colours and tropical plants. As well as treatment rooms, the spa offers ‘affusion’ showers, steam baths, huge sauna with cold water pool and relaxation areas. The spa is complemented by a large fully equipped gym with personal trainers on hand.
