Just an hour's flight or three hour drive from the hustle and bustle of Lusaka is Ila Safari Lodge, a very contemporary luxury eco-lodge located right on the banks of Kafue River. Ila Safari Loge is perfect if you want a safari adventure in the great wilderness that is Kafue but want luxury and comfort. Start or end your safari experience in Zambia in style at Ila Safari Lodge and perhaps combine it with another safari camp in a more remote location to satisfy the inner 'safari purist' in you.
Ila Safari Lodge boasts a 180 degree view of the Kafue River and makes the most of this by placing the beautiful semi circular boma, infinity pool, bar and open air restaurant on the banks of the mighty Kafue River. There are ten luxury safari tents, two of which are larger suites just perfect for families. Each tent has its own private deck looking out over the Kafue River. The tents all have their own individual African design but still sit comfortably in their natural surroundings. These sophisticated tents are all en suite with either outside showers or baths.
The larger family suites cater for four people but can also accommodate an extra bed which is ideal for families with a third child. The family tents have both bath and shower with views of the Kafue River.
Kafue National Park is the second largest in Africa giving you the opportunity to explore a vast untouched area. Being the largest and oldest park in Zambia, it is surprising that it still remains an unspoilt wilderness area. Ila Safari Lodge offers game drives, boat cruises, safari walks, fishing and cultural visits to the Chunga community where a traditional meal is included. Ila Safari Lodge also offers a wonderful opportunity to experience an eco-friendly safari. Have a serene cruise along the Kafue River on the solar powered eBoat or a take a short game drive in their eLand (electronic Landrover), the first of its kind in Zambia. This vehicle allows you to experience all the sights and sounds of the bush in near silence and with a sense of environmental care. There are three top of the range game viewers which reside on the park side of the river. It's a quick float in a boat over to them which is always a nice way to start the morning!
Children over 12 years can take part in walking safaris. However, participation in activities for children under 6 years is at the management's discretion.
The Kafue River attracts a diverse range of wildlife including big game such as lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo as well as a healthy population of wild dog. There is a wide variety of antelope species including the roan and sable antelope. Kafue offers some of the best birding in Africa since the habitat of the park varies from riverbanks and lush wetlands to open savanna and rich woodland. Amphibians are also to be seen scurrying through the undergrowth.
