Kwando Kwara Camp

Kwando Kwara Camp lies in the remote northern part of the Okavango Delta within the private Kwara concession. It is a magnificent wilderness area in excess of 1,750 square kilometres. And lies on the edge of the permanent water backed by grasslands. The Kwara concession encompasses a wide diversity of habitats. Ranging from clear delta waters with reed-lined lagoons and channels, to open grasslands, Mopane woodlands and palm-fringed islands.
Kwando Kwara Camp has a true safari feel - relaxed, and comfortably rustic. The camp is simple – there are no massage salas, wine cellars or luxurious bathrooms here!
The central areas comprise a raised lounge and bar constructed around existing trees. There's a honesty bar so you help yourself to drinks whenever you want to. The dining room under thatch and canvas chairs surrounding a firepit provides a convivial place for campfire drinks before and after dinner. To the side is a small plunge pool and pool deck with sun loungers as well as an interpretative centre.
The eight safari-style tents are built on raised teak decks, overlooking a vast floodplain within a grove of huge African Ebony trees. Each tent has its own viewing deck, private en suite facilities including hot and cold running showers and flush toilets. The honeymoon suite has an antique ball & claw bath. Resident hippos provide a welcoming chorus from the floodplain in front of the camp.
At Kwara Camp you can enjoy a diverse wildlife experience all year round, but with a focus on water activities given the close proximity to the permanent waters of the Delta. Glide silently through crystal-clear waterways in a mokoro, enjoy bird watching, fishing, or walking on one of the many palm-fringed islands, head out on a spectacular safari night drive - the choices are endless. The Kwara concession is also home to lechwe, sitatunga, reedbuck, bushbuck, hippo, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and tsessebe. Lion, hyena, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are regularly seen here.
Among the waterways there is an amazing number and variety of bird species. Kingfishers, pygmy geese, fish eagles and the elusive Pel's fishing owl. Kwando Kwara Camp is one of the closest camps to the famous Godikwe lagoon. Here you will be surrounded by thousands of herons, storks and other nesting birds - stunning for keen photographers though the smell is somewhat strong until you get used to it.
You may like to combine a few nights at Kwara camp with a few nights at one of its sister camps at either Lagoon or Lebala camp.
Please note: It is Kwando Safaris' policy to NOT have roofs on their open 4x4 game drive vehicles. In both winter and summer. As they feel that will detract both from your ability to take the best photographs and also, particularly, from your birding experience.
