Kwando Little Kwara Camp is a luxurious and intimate camp only five minutes drive from its sister camp, Kwara Camp in the Okavango Delta. There are just five spacious elegantly furnished tents, elevated into the tree canopy on wooden decks, each with its own private shaded veranda. Each tent has its own en suite bathroom with bath and inside/outside shower. Kwando Little Kwara Camp is ideal for exclusive use by small groups and family parties. (A fifth tent can be used by guides etc.)
The canvas central area comprises a raised lounge with an honesty bar so that you help yourself to drinks whenever you want to. There's a dining room with open sides to enjoy the delta views. To the side of the lounge is a plunge pool and pool deck with sun loungers and shady areas for when the sun gets too hot.
Kwando Little Kwara Camp is somewhat unusual in that guests can enjoy a diverse wildlife experience all year, but with a focus on water activities given the close proximity to the permanent waters of the Okavango Delta. Glide silently through crystal-clear waterways in a mokoro, enjoy bird watching, fishing, or walking on one of the many palm-fringed islands, head out on a spectacular safari night drive - the choices are endless. You can also enjoy boat cruises to the Godikwe heronry on their unique double-decked boat. The heronry is most active between September and February when you’ll be surrounded by thousands of herons, storks and other nesting birds - stunning for keen photographers.
The Kwara concession is home to lechwe, sitatunga, reedbuck, bushbuck, hippo, crocodiles, elephant, buffalo, sable, roan, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, impala and tsessebe. Lion, hyena, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are also regularly seen in this part of the Okavango Delta. Among the waterways there is an amazing number and variety of bird species, kingfishers, pygmy geese, fish eagles and the elusive Pel's fishing owl. Fishing is also offered on request, using normal reel and rod fishing.
Please note that it is Kwando Safaris policy to NOT have roofs on their open 4x4 game drive vehicles (in both winter and summer) as they feel that will detract both from your ability to take the best photographs and also, particularly, from the bird-watching experience.
The children's programs are different for each family based on the ages, sexes and interests of the children. Children are not only amused but learn a great deal under the Kwando guides' expert supervision. We find that the children have an amazing time and get far more out of the safari than any adult without detracting from other guests experience. Their guide will do a junior rangers course with teenagers and activities like spoor castings, using spotlights, fishing, animal and bush identification, greeting card making out of natural materials etc. for the younger kids. The staff also do things like platting girls’ hair in the traditional way. In essence the kids are either busy or asleep.
