Kwando Splash Camp

Splash Camp is situated in the heart of the Okavango Delta, within the Kwara Private Reserve. Located around a natural waterhole, which attracts game year round. And offers a relaxed, friendly and authentic atmosphere.

The Kwara Reserve shares a 30km water boundary with the famous Moremi Game Reserve. And its unique location boasts both permanent water and seasonal flood plains as well as extensive dry bush wilderness. Favoured by labyrinths of permanent water channels and secret islands this area offers the perfect delta experience.

The area has long been known as Splash due to the huge water crossings that had to be negotiated to access the camp area. The camp is situated in a permanent water location. And offer year-round activities like game drives, walking safaris, boat cruises, mokoro, and seasonal fishing (Mar-Dec only).

Accommodation

The camp features 12 spacious ensuite rooms. Two of these include family rooms, and there are an additional two guide rooms which are identical to guest rooms. As well as a main area, bar, dining area and swimming pool.

Located around a pan, each of the 12 rooms is situated on a deck overlooking the pan. All are en-suite with a flush toilet, double sinks and both an indoor and an outdoor shower. In addition each room has a private veranda with outdoor lounge chairs.

Splash's decor is contemporary yet simple; and in keeping with the Kwando Safaris' philosophy of being immersed in nature, all the rooms are open to the sounds of the bush. The main area, which is in the centre of the camp, is open air and allows the cool breeze to flow through and watch the animals that come down to drink.

Just in front, towards the waterhole is the fire pit where a light breakfast is served each day before heading off on activities. And stories are told after supper in the evenings.

Activities

As Splash is in a private concession we have the opportunity to drive off road in search of sightings and also it means we are able to drive at night with spotlights. 30% of fascinating mammals are mainly active at night, so this gives us more opportunities to find them.

The mokoro trip is the quintessential delta experience. There is nothing more relaxing than poling along the lagoon and channels with your guide, soaking up the atmosphere and seeing things from a totally different perspective.

It is also possible to do guided walks year round. An area is chosen at the guide's discretion and in keeping with safe distances from large herds of elephant and buffalo . The distance and area for each walk may vary seasonally at the guides’ discretion.

Fishing is also offered at Splash for 10 months of the year, but is prohibited in January and February as this is peak breeding season. Basic equipment is supplied, but avid fly-fishers are advised to bring their own equipment.
