Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge

A small boutique hotel is a rarity on Mauritius, so Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge is unique both for this and for its rural location in a picturesque valley surrounded by the Black River gorge heritage site on the Mauritius West Coast. The emphasis here at this owner-run lodge is more about the personal attention and the lush and natural countryside than beach and watersports, though it is only a short 15 minute drive to some excellent beaches at Le Morne and Baie du Cap.

The lodge is a classic boutique hotel, built by the family that owns and runs it, when they wanted a new challenge after years in management in more typical 5 star Mauritian hotels. Fine cuisine is a speciality and guests are welcome in the kitchen and even to learn from the Lakaz Chamarel chef.

The main building houses the reception, lounges, TV room and library, bar and the dining room and terrace. Set apart from the main building, the 20 individually decorated bedrooms and suites have open-air bathrooms and are nestled in the tropical hillside gardens. The decor is stylish but organic, with lots of natural materials such as slate and natural wood. There is a lovely pool by which to chill out or, even more relaxing, guests can enjoy an aromatherapy massage, sauna or reflexology.

• 4 Superior Rooms are 60 square metres
• 8 Garden Pool Suites are 95 square metres with a private plunge pool
• 4 Seaview Pool Suites are 110 square metres, more secluded and higher, with a private plunge pool
• The 120 square metre Piton Canot has its own seaview sala as well as a private pool

All rooms and Suites are equipped with: Ceiling Fan, citronella essential oil, bathrobes, slippers, mosquito nets, sponges & pool towels, pillow menu (for a more comfortable sleep), mini bar, hairdryer, telephone, tea and coffee making facilities, safe, iPod dock and Free WIFI (Bar & Rooms/Suites)
