Lanzerac Hotel & Spa is nestled in the foothills of the idyllic Jonkershoek Valley in the Winelands. It lies on a wine estate close to the historic university town of Stellenbosch (1.4km away, less than a mile). Few boutique hotels can enjoy a more spectacular location. Mountains, oak-lined avenues, lush vineyards all combine to provide the archetypal Cape wine farm setting of this beautiful hotel.
Settle yourself beneath the shade of an old oak with a glass of wine in hand and step back in time. Built in 1692, the Lanzerac is one of South Africa’s finest examples of Cape Dutch Architecture. However, after a fire, the Lanzerac Hotel has been recently refurbished to combine the best of old world tradition with new world expertise and efficiency. Today this five star hotel and estate is known for timeless luxury, service, fine wine and cuisine.
This gracious hotel's restaurant and lounge areas are in the 300-year-old Manor House. It lies within 10 hectares of award-winning landscaped gardens featuring numerous ancient oaks - some 160 years old. However the Lanzerac has managed to create welcoming interiors which blend both period grandeur and contemporary style. There are 53 individually furnished rooms and suites including the Royal Pool Suite with its own private plunge pool. All rooms have air-conditioning, underfloor heating and private patios overlooking the vineyards, gardens and the Helderberg Mountains. Each room is individually desgned with great flare and an attractive mix of contemporary and antique furnishings.
The French concept of terroir - the mysterious blend of climate, soil and setting that produces the unique taste of the wine - takes form here as the Lanzerac Hotel is also a working wine farm and cellar. You can enjoy a 'Wine Safari' which gives an in-depth view of the vineyards, grape cultivars, wine making and tasting. The Lanzerac's stunning range of wines are the perfect complement to meals at the Lanzerac. Complimentary wine-tasting and a cellar tour is included as well as spa access.
There is a choice of three restaurants: The Manor kitchen, the Deli restaurant and the Tapas bar and restaurant. There are plenty of quiet places to hang out from the the Craven bar and lounge to the Taphuis, a historic bar decorated with antique yellowwood furniture with a huge Cape Dutch kitchen fireplace as the centre-piece.
The Lanzerac Hotel accepts children with interleading rooms available. There is plenty of space for children to play around and easy family walks to enjoy in the surrounding vineyards of the Lanzerac estate. The choice of restaurants also works well for families who can opt for more casual dining if they prefer.
