Mpala Jena

Luxury
Mpala Jena is a boutique safari camp positioned along the beautiful tree-laden banks of the Zambezi River. The camp epitomizes ‘barefoot luxury’ with scalloped thatched roofs, soft sand floors and a beach bar overlooking the pool and river. A cool, calming colour palette compliments light natural textures and sets the scene for slow, in-the-moment living.
Three guest tents and two family tents, all positioned under the dappled shade of indigenous Sausage and Jackalberry trees, are generously appointed with a private deck and an outdoor bath and shower.
The camp is located within the 56,000-hectare Zambezi National Park, home to an ever-increasing number of wildlife species that can be enjoyed on safari drives, boat cruises, walking trails or even while sipping cocktails from the swing chairs in camp. Mpala Jena is located on a private concession within the Zambezi National Park. The camp is named after the natural spring line, Mpala Jena, which runs through the centre of the concession, and which attracts an abundance of wildlife throughout the year, particularly during the drier months. The park is renowned for its high concentration of lions per km², making it the park with the largest lion population in Zimbabwe. Additionally, the park typically sees increased numbers of buffalo and elephant from June to October.
Birding is spectacular all year round with the highest species diversity seen from November through to October. Catch and release fishing is a popular activity and peaks during Tiger fishing season between June and December.
Mpala Jena offers guided wildlife viewing in open safari vehicles, guided walks and morning or afternoon boat cruises (water levels dependent ). The vehicles are all fully stocked with reference books, drinks and snacks. In addition, why not enjoy an excursion into Victoria Falls including a visit to the thunderous and impressive mass of falling water of the actual Victoria Falls. A half-day guided tour of the Victoria Falls is included for guests staying for 2 or more nights.
Mpala Jena has a strong sustainability ethos and operates entirely on its solar plant and battery. The building materials and design elements were carefully chosen to minimize embodied energy and transportation miles.
The camp is conveniently located 19 kilometres inside the Zambezi National Park, allowing easy access to Victoria Falls town by a 40-minute boat or road transfer. Mpala Jena also runs guided tours of the Victoria Falls.
