Observe elephants and other captivating wildlife as they gracefully traverse the banks of the majestic river.
Indulge in the ultimate relaxation experience. De-stress and enjoy complete pampering and rejuvenation from experienced professionals at the luxury spa.
I stayed at the relatively new Mukwa River Lodge. This is a luxurious riverside lodge near to Victoria Falls with the palatial rooms reminiscent of a grand bygone era, (though the bathrooms are super-modern.)
it would appeal to older people, and also has far fewer steps or distance to walk so ideal for people who may not wish to walk so far or negotiate quite a few steps (as at Tongabezi Lodge).
It is set in stilts above the ground with lots of water (as it’s an area that flooded so they have made provision for that) so it has a slightly different vibe to other lodges. (Sort of Africa meets the Far East, with echos of Japan. (Though - to be fair - my companions didnt see that!)
It lies approx 35 mins from Vic Falls
4 River suites overlook the river and each is sizeable with their own private garden with slightly incongruous pool. Very palatial and grand in an ‘old explorers’ sort of style.
Large and modern indoor bathroom, with bath, shower, separate toilet. This leads out to a courtyard outdoor shower
One Family River suite has 2 bedrooms and shares one pool
2 Island suites - Note that these are exactly the same size but overlook the gardens hence lower price, as there is no river view from your suite or private garden.
Because of risk of flooding the rooms are set on stilts and have ever so slightly less of a river view than say Tongabezi or Thorntree’s cottages and suites.
Plus points
• Superb food – probably the best on offer at Victoria Falls
• Like the watery feel of the interior landscaping
• Has a spa, gym, wine cellar
• Loved their outside sitting area which is right by the river, often used for private dinners in the evening
• 4 for 3 special year round
