If you're looking for a remote wilderness safari camp experience within driving distance to Victoria Falls, then Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is a good choice. Located just 3 hours drive from Victoria Falls and Livingstone, Nanzhila is the only camp in Southern Kafue which means you have nearly 3000km² of wilderness to yourself to explore. If you're more of a jet-setter, Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp can also be accessed by charter flight from Livingstone or Lusaka.
The camp has a picturesque setting, situated on the edge of a large Dambo (seasonal floodplain) amongst Jackelberry and Sausage trees. Nanzhila Plains has the benefit of being owner managed and has just 6 rooms in total - three comfortable chalets and three tents, all of which are ensuite. The rooms are placed so that you can enjoy an unintrusive view of the dambo. After a day on safari, make your way to the main area with it's unique insaka comprising of a teak floored deck, bar and fireplace or enjoy the African night sky in the boma outside. Enjoy homely meals in the large thatched lounge and dining area on the elevated teak deck.
Activities at Nanzhila Camp include game drives and guided walks. Whilst Kafue is not a 'see the Big 5 in 24 hours' park, you may see a wide diversity of wildlife including a variety of antelope, lion, elephant, cheetah, or you might catch a glimpse of the wild dog or leopard. Bird walks are a feature here as the birding in Kafue is renowned. Cultural visits to Shezongo village can be made by arrangement. You can also choose to have a full day out at Nanzhila Plains which will start with breakfast at camp. Armed with a packed lunch, you then head out to experience the wildlife of Kafue National Park. You will also get the opportunity to visit the Elephant orphanage. You may also drive through the Ngoma Forest and Lake Itezhi-tezhi where you might see buffalo and hippo.
