Luxury

Overview

  • Stunning accommodation amidst a tea plantation right on the edge of the Nyungwe National Park
  • Chimpanzees & Ruwenzori colobus monkeys among 14 different primates you might glimpse on forest walks
  • Outdoor heated pool, 2 treatment rooms & jacuzzi

Nyungwe House is the only luxury lodge in the Nyungwe Forest. It has a beautiful location just outside the western edge of the National Park, in the Gisakuru Tea Estate - the tea plantation that surrounds the lodge. The main lodge sits slightly higher than the 23 rooms and suites which sweep round in a semi-circle overlooking the green plantations with the forest beyond.

Accommodation

All 24 rooms are beautifully appointed and stylish. There are 15 Luxury Rooms with king sized beds, 5 with twin beds and 2 Two Bedroom Suites. All rooms have a fire place, air conditioning, electronic safe, flatscreen TV, hairdryer and mini bar. The luxurious bathroom has a welcome deep bath to soothe away the aches and pains of the Chimpanzee trekking. Outside your private deck is the perfect place to soak up the views. There are two inter-connecting suites, making perfect accommodation for families or couples travelling together. There is a daily laundry service.

Nyungwe House Facilities & Activities

Other facilities at Nyungwe House include a boma for alfresco dining and drinks around the fire. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool and fitness centre (if the hours of trekking are not enough). In addition, there is a Jacuzzi and two spa treatment rooms, ideal for post-trekking massages! You have also the mod-cons of wireless internet access in the main areas of the lodge.

One of the attractions of staying here is the possibility of going chimpanzee trekking. However, you should be aware that you will need to start at about 4:30am and drive for a couple of hours to the hilly chimp trekking area. But if you’re fit, and keen for an early start then it can be very rewarding. Children under the age of fifteen are not permitted to trek Chimpanzees but are able to see the other primates and wonders of the forest. Birding is also a great option here.
