Porini Rhino Camp

Comfortable
Porini Rhino Camp has a tranquil setting amongst acacia trees on the banks of a seasonal river in the quiet western valley of the 35,000 ha Ol Pejeta Conservancy in southern Laikipia in Kenya.
The Ol Pejeta Conservancy close to Mount Kenya is particularly known for its large population of the endangered black rhino, (the largest in East Africa), and also boasts reticulated giraffe, the rare Grevy's zebra, plenty of plains game and a healthy complement of predators (around 45 lion and 30 cheetah as well as some elusive leopard); in fact the Ol Pejeta Conservancy has the highest resident game-to-area ratio of any reserve in Kenya. It is also a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees.
All seven spacious tents are en-suite with flush toilets and hot safari showers. Each tent is positioned to make the most of the wonderful surrounding views. A shaded veranda features a couple of safari chairs and table, an ideal spot to soak up the atmosphere and watch the game. The camp is specially designed to have minimum environmental impact and has no permanent structures and uses eco-friendly fuel: lighting and water is solar powered.
At night you gather round the camp fire for pre-dinner drinks before sitting down to a fine dinner in the mess tent. Lunch is most often taken outside under the shade of some trees and breakfast awaits guests returning from their morning game drive in the mess tent. Sometimes guests might go for an all day game drive with a picnic lunch packed in the vehicle; the longer the stay the more ways there are to configure the activities, but one of the highlights is a walk with a couple of the camp's Masai warriors. Being on foot allows you to observe the vegetation and wildlife in a completely different way.
