Shooting Star Lodge is a friendly family-run hotel on the north east coast of Zanzibar. The property has grown in sophistication over the years but has not lost the relaxed feel which gives character and heart to a boutique hotel. The rooms and main areas are on a coral headland a few metres above a fine white sand beach and they are backed by lush tropical gardens. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable and the food and atmosphere in the restaurant is very good.

Accommodation

Accommodation at Shooting Star Lodge is built to an extremely high standard in traditional Zanzibari style with white lime washed walls, high beamed ceilings and large windows. The Villas and Sea View Cottages all contain beautifully hand-carved Zanzibari beds draped with colourful mosquito net canopies. All have matching Tanzanian ‘vintage’ batik bed covers, along with coconut wood wall mirrors and other hand-made teak wood furniture.

All rooms are air-conditioned and also have ceiling fans to complement Kiwengwa's cool sea breezes. (Guests can be accommodated on a Full Board, Half Board or Bed & Breakfast basis depending on your preference).

Family Cottages

Some cottages are on two levels and are ideal for families. The ground floor has a large air-conditioned double bedroom, shower room and separate closet. There is a staircase leading up to a twin children’s room in the roof space. Whilst there is a separate wash basin area on the upper level, the shower and toilet are shared with the ground floor. The upper level has ceiling and table fans only.

Two Monsoon Villas, Kusi and Kaskazi are set on the crest of the hill apart from the main hotel guest rooms. Each suite is laid out on 3 floors with 2 bedrooms and a private swimming pool, set amidst a tropical garden. From the roof, panoramic views can be enjoyed from the bathtub and there is a fully netted bed for “sleep outs”. Both suites have ceiling fans as well as being fully air conditioned. The three Garden Lodge Rooms are smaller and more simply furnished, with Zanzibari beds. They are air-conditioned and have ceiling fans and are also en-suite. The terraces look out to the tropical garden.
