The 72,000 ha Northern Tuli Game Reserve is a hidden gem in the easternmost corner of Botswana, easily accessed from South Africa. This is a unique, timeless corner of Africa with spectacular wildlife, breath-taking landscapes and fascinating history. Tuli Safari Lodge is a small, luxurious and relaxing safari lodge close to the legendary Limpopo River. It has 10 elegant suites nestled in peaceful, spacious gardens shaded by ancient trees.

Accommodation at Tuli Safari Lodge

The eight tented suites with draped canvas over timber frames are spacious, airy and elevated. Large wrap-around decks are designed to provide a relaxing outdoor space with views over the Tuli grounds and surrounding bush. The interiors are a modern take on classic ‘out of Africa’ décor, with a flowing open plan design. All suites feature an island bed, lounge area, freestanding bath, separate wet room shower, double basin vanity area, toilet, tea/coffee facilities, hairdryer and safe. The two classic suites are furnished and designed to the same high standard, but have outdoor showers in a private patio area. They are thatched with solid walls, air conditioning and a shaded veranda area.

The central area features the lounge, bar and reception/curio shop. There’s a large swimming pool, beautifully positioned by a secluded rocky outcrop. The Lentswe Hide, located just past the boma, allows you to spot the wildlife visiting the pretty waterhole at the back of the lodge in comfort. Alternatively you can visit the swamp hide a short distance from the gates of the lodge if accompanied by a ranger. Enjoy panoramic views of the reserve overlooking a baobab-studded plain from the ‘star deck’ atop one of the sandstone kopjes. Excellent at any time of day, but especially for sundowners. Or sit by the banks of the Limpopo River to soak up the atmosphere and spot passing wildlife.

Wildlife at Tuli Safari Lodge

Northern Tuli Game Reserve is home to a diverse range of wildlife and is recognised as an Important Bird Area with over 350 species recorded. There are 48 large mammal species present in the reserve, totalling approximately twenty thousand animals, which include elephant, fifteen large herbivore species and multiple cat species including lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal and African wild cat. Excitingly, the rare honey badger and aardvark are sometimes spotted. Rhino and buffalo are not present however.

There is a small pack of wild dog in the area which arrived following a reintroduction a couple of years ago. More wild dog are being relocated from a private collection elsewhere in Botswana and will initially be held in two familiarisation bomas, one of which will be located on Tuli Safari Lodge’s property. Once fully acclimatised they will be released, with one or two animals being radio collared.

Varied safari adventures include game drives, bush walks, night drives, hides, meaningful community visits and an excursion to the meeting point of Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe opposite Mapungubwe World Heritage Site.

Children at Tuli Safari Lodge

Tuli is fantastic for families; all children are welcome. Children under 12 may not participate in bush walks. If parents would like children under the age of 12 to participate in game drives, please advise us in advance as it may be necessary to arrange an exclusive vehicle for which there may be a charge, depending on how busy the lodge is. Babysitters are available at an additional charge and children’s meals can be made on request. All the suites can be made up as doubles or twins and are large enough to accommodate two children under 12 on single beds sharing with their parents if required.
