Durban Township tour
Townships are the cultural soul of South Africa. And few can rival the townships of Inanda and KwaMashu in Durban for their cultural richness. A township tour will allow you to gradually learn to listen to the rhythmic heartbeat of these vibrant areas. And, to walk the path of some of the world’s greatest leaders, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela.
The Durban Township tour may include some time looking at the history and culture of the townships. A typical visit includes Mahatma Gandhi’s House, a visit to a family home, a typical spaza shop, as well as a traditional shisanyama lunch at a local tavern. You may also visit a school (if it’s a weekday).
The tour takes around 6 hours including lunch. If you decide to make a whole day of it and take a city tour in the morning and then the township tour, the extra cost is very little.
Please note: We do not arrange township tours as stand-alone activities. We only offer them as part of a tailor-made holiday booked with Cedarberg Africa. However, you can contact one of the direct suppliers such as Streetscene Tours if you want to ONLY book a township tour.
