Guided Sea kayaking in Plettenberg Bay
Guided Sea kayaking is a wonderful way to explore the Garden Route. You kayak with an experienced guide from the beach in Plettenberg Bay to Robberg Nature Reserve.
After a thorough briefing on kayaking techniques and safety you set off on a round trip. The exact direction is also dependant on the wind, the swell and paddling abilities. A knowledgeable guide accompanies you all the way. Typically you head to Robberg Nature Reserve. This is an amazing nature experience as you will often kayak with dolphins right next to you. When you reach Robberg Nature Reserve you will kayak amongst the seals at the seal colony. Your guide will introduce you to Robberg Nature Reserve and the wonderful marine life in the bay. In whale season you will encounter these majestic mammals on your tour. On your way back you glide across the sparkling water while enjoying a view of the majestic Tsitsikamma Mountains.
You will probably see Cape Fur Seals, Bottlenose and Humpback dolphins, whales in season (July – October), cormorants and other sea birds and marine mammals. Whatever the time of year there is always something to see.
Practicalities: There are two companies that offer this. One focuses more on Robberg and the other chooses their route depending on the group. Both go out with a small group of up to 6 people, with the guide carrying a radio and SAMSA equipment. The tours are designed for first-time paddlers and novices though more experienced people are welcome.
