Visit Babylonstoren or Vergelegen
Somerset West
Boschendal is not the only lovely garden open to the public. Babylonstoren at Klapmuts and Vergelgen in Somerset West are also well worth a visit, with superb gardens, homesteads, restaurants and wine-tasting.
Visit Babylonstoren
Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms, offering a number of attractions. The garden is probably the primerary one. Enjoy meandering through the extensive compartmentalized garden. There are daily guided garden walks at 10am.
You can also enjoy wine-tasting at their modern wine-tasting room, or cellar-touring which includes a tour of their olive oil making facility.
There are two excellent restaurants – both very popular, so book ahead in peak season (and at any time for Babel). Finally, their farm shop is above average if you are looking for a unique winelands gift for someone or yourself!
Note: Babylonstoren can get very busy on the weekends in summer. So, try to visit during the week if possible.
See Babylonstoren’s website for more info.
Visit Vergelegen
Vergelegen is an elegant, tranquil wine estate with a Cape Dutch homestead on the outskirts of Somerset West. It boasts a lovely walled circular garden, extensive grounds to walk in, an excellent restaurant, as well as wine-tasting and state-of-the-art cellar tours. You will need to pre-book for the wine-tasting tour as it is very popular.
See Vergelegen’s website for more info or call 021 847 2100 for bookings.
