Wine-tasting in Hermanus – The Hemel en Aarde Valley

The Hermanus region offers some of the loveliest wine routes in the country, both in the Hemel en Aarde Valley and around the Stanford area.

The Hemel en Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley is a picturesque road between Hermanus and Caledon. Spend a morning (or even a day) enjoying the many wine estates along this route, such as Hamilton Russell, Bouchard Finlayson, Southern Right and Creation.

In addition to wine-tasting, there are various other activities – from vineyard walks to the vibrant Saturday morning market at Hermanuspietersfontein. There are some excellent winery restaurants for lunch. Such as Temptation and the Champagne Veranda at La Vierge, and Heaven at Newton Johnson. Tasting room brunch boards are available at Bouchard Finlayson. Deli platters at Sumaridge and a tapas food and wine pairing and kiddies menu at Creation.

On the east side of Hermanus near to Standford, there are some excellent wine estates to visit as well, such as Raka wines, Springfontein (which has a great restaurant) and the Walker Bay Estate which also has the Birkenhead micro-brewery. Here, you can enjoy beer-tasting and even a brewery tour (pre-booking essential).
