This 5 night Rivers & Rainbows safari in South Luangwa takes place ONLY in the green season, between January and March each year. Thus is when much of the South Luangwa National Park is flooded. However the central area remains open throughout the year. So you can enjoy the traditional game drives and game walks of a classic safari. But as you travel north to Kakuli Camp, the safari changes to being orientated around the water with game-viewing by boat. You'll also enjoy shorter game walks on the 'islands' surrounded by flood water.
The emerald season is a stunning time to be in the South Luangwa. The bush is fresh and green & the birding is spectacular. This is the time when many youngsters are being borne. Ironically it is actually often surprisingly good for game-viewing. The animals are more restricted in their movements, being forced by flood waters to stay in more confined areas.
