Overview
Arusha * Tarangire * Lake Manyara * Serengeti * Ngorongoro Crater
Our Tanzania Lion Safari is a well-priced 7 night safari which can be done on a private basis (as shown here) or on a scheduled basis (joining other people in a small safari vehicle).
You visit four of the best game parks in the "Northern Circuit" of Tanzania. You start with Tarangire National Park, then to Lake Manyara. You visit Olduvai Gorge en route to the Serengeti, and finally you end with the Ngorongoro Crater. But the highlight will probably be the game-filled plains of the Serengeti where you can see the constant cycle of the wildebeest migration.
If you arrive into Kilimanjaro Airport, the 7 night version gives you a night near Arusha (to allow for the timing of some international arrival flights, and also giving you time to recover from jetlag/travelling.) The safari itself starts in Arusha town after lunch on the following day. You drive to Tarangire National park, then to Lake Manyara. The you continue to the Serengeti and you end with the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater before returning to Arusha. It is ideal if you want to visit the main game parks in Tanzania and like the comfort of a safari lodge rather than staying under canvas.

The Tanzania Lion Safari offers great value for money and is ideal for people who have a short amount of time. Its a safari by road with no light aircraft flights. So it is also popular with guests who are not fond of small planes. You travel in a comfortable 4WD safari vehicle with an experienced English-speaking Tanzanian guide. Much of the travel between various locations is scenic or interesting (or both) so the journey is very much part of the safari, especially between the Ngorongoro highlands and the Serengeti.
But please note that some of the drives are long (especially getting to and from the Serengeti.)
Upgrade Option
Our Upgrade option is also a private tour but uses smarter (and more exclusive) accommodation with Wellworth Hotels and Lodges. Personally we think this is well worth the upgrade price.

Private or Scheduled?
Choose between a private tour (as priced here) and a small group tour (with a maximum of 7 guests). The scheduled tour works out as more budget-friendly than a private tour if you are a solo traveller or a couple. BUT interestingly, the cost of the private tour for 4 people is actually a VERY SIMILAR PRICE to the scheduled tour. So, if you are a family or group of friends we always recommend the private tour option.
Contact us for a quote for a scheduled tour.
Notes
- The day of departure (7 night tour) for the scheduled tours is every Friday. It is easier and quicker to get availability for private tours if they also depart on those days, but they can depart on any day.
- The single supplement is less than 15% more than the per person price so we recommend the scheduled tour for solo travellers as it is an easy way to travel without paying for a private tour.
