What an amazing place, both the Busanga Plains, but also the innovative architectural Chisa Camp.
The Busanga Plains delivers both in sheer quantity and diversity of predator sightings with cheetah, leopard and lion seen all on one game drive. Plus Busanga has only 15,000 visitors versus 1.5million visitors to the Kruger National Park. But it is larger than the Kruger at 22,000sq km versus Krugerâs 19,000 sq km. So that means that you have some incredible predator sightings, practically all to yourself.
Accommodation
Chisa is known for its amazing birdâs nest rooms accessed via a staircase, though one of them has a lift for people who cannot manage stairs. These are cosy and comfortable with amazing morning views. Make sure you allow enough time to enjoy coffee there in the early morning before your drive. They have an enclosed toilet, shower, basin and the eco-friendly âAir-Breezeâ cooling system.
If you only have 2-3 nights for Kafue, then spend them all at Chisa. If you have 4+ nights, we recommend 1-2 nights at its sister lodge Ila Safari Lodge and 3 nights in the Busanga Plains at Chisa.
The plains have a very short season as it is very water-logged until June and then most camps close at the end of October, but Chisa stays open until the first rains. Can be very cold at night in June-July. But then have the mist in the early mornings so very dramatic photographic opportunities.
There are only five camps in the Busanga plains, so the plains are never crowded.
As it is run by Green safaris, they operate electric land-cruisers which make for an amazing quiet game drive where you can listen to the sounds of the bush more easily.
