Our final nights were spent at Steenberg Hotel & Spa. We are guilty of sometimes only thinking of it as the PERFECT hotel for guests wanting to enjoy some golf whilst staying in Cape Town. But our stay reminded us that it offers so much MORE!
Firstly it is one of the original Cape Dutch homestead so it oozes history though the interiors are a mix of classic and contemporary. You are surrounded by space (even though you are in the city). I enjoyed a walk around the vineyards and on the golf course, They have a 5km running trail mapped out all on their land.
Then to the rooms. We stayed in one of the Premier suites which was extremely spacious with a beautiful bathroom with a glamourous, slightly art-deco 1920’s vibe to it. If your budget runs to this, we highly recommend it. However we also viewed both the Classic and the Superior rooms which were lovely as well.
We had dinner at Tryn, which is their fine dining restaurant and it was suitably elegant, delicious but not super-fussy. It was winter so we dined inside but there’s a beauitful courtyard dining option overlooking the vineyards. Breakfast was on the terrace under the majestic oak trees, and equally delicious.
We enjoyed a complimentary wine-tasting up at their tasting rooms (approx 5 mins drive away) with a complimentary transfer. The place was buzzing with people and energy. Clearly one of the in places to be on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
We didnt use their spa facilities but they looked amazing AND they are about to be revamped and extended. They have a lovely concept of a semi-alfresco spa pavillion by the swimming pool. This is brilliant for early arrivals or late departures as there is a shower room there as well. So you can arrive at the hotel at 11am and start enjoying yourself even if your room is not yet ready to check in. (Check-in time is 2pm)
And finally the staff who were so friendly and accommodating. At breakfast every morning they came to our table to ask what plans we had for the day and if they could assist in any way- they could not do enough for us and we were thoroughly spoilt.
Needless to say we would go back!
