While somewhat new to the safari world, our product manager, Madeleine has always had a passion for exploring. She vividly remembers her first encounter watching a horde (not a herd) of wildebeest frolicking in the mud before crossing over into the Timbvati from the Klasserie reserve.

With a Bachelor's in economics and law, Maddie as we affectionately call her, is a superhero in our team, making sure all the details of our vast selection of preferred properties are always ready at hand and staying on top of all new developments and exciting changes and offerings.

Madeleine has a steadfast, methodical approach and a fantastic sense of humour. When not pursuing the latest and greatest in terms of properties and activities, you can find her exploring her native Cape Town and wider South Africa.

Which hidden gem in Africa would you recommend to travellers?

Not quite so hidden anymore, but definitely the Garden Route in South Africa. Maybe it is because I grew up going to Plettenberg Bay every school holiday, but it has always been such a magical place to me. You are close enough to have a stunning beach holiday with hikes and ocean sundowners, yet also close enough to drive a couple of hours and head into the bush for a safari in the Eastern Cape! As I live in Cape Town, we try and wander through a new town on the drive up to Plett every year. The Garden Route never gets old or predictable !

What’s your top safari packing trip that most people don’t think of ?

A beanie for those early morning game drives (I always forget about the ears!). On the other hand—definitely a swimming costume if the camp you are travelling to has a pool!

What was the moment you fell in love with African travel?

Definitely whilst exploring my own country, South Africa, more. It is always a trend to leave Africa for holidays, yet we have everything and more right under our noses!
