Back before Covid, we introduced our first ‘’Winter Offer’’, which was went down very well. So since then we have launched three more offers to entice you to think out of the box. In fact now, three of the four Offers highlighted here are available for many more months than just winter. We’ve now updated these offers for 2024.
Note: Winter is our Southern Hemisphere winter so typically May to September!
Does South Africa have a winter?
Believe it or not, South Africa does have a ‘winter’ season. Though not like you may be used to. From May to September, the days are cooler and yes, there’s a small chance of rain down in the Cape.
But the temperatures aren’t really that bad. Down in the Cape the days are a pleasant 17 to 22 C. Whilst at night a warming fire-place just needs a good bottle of red wine to be cracked open. Plus the temperatures start to head upwards by late August and September. Not lying on the beach sort of weather. But wonderful for sight-seeing and being active all day without collapsing with heat exhaustion. You can get into that top Winelands restaurant without needing to book 3 months ahead. You won’t be jostling the crowds in the Waterfront. Or trying to avoid the endless selfie-snappers on Table Mountain.
Our winter months are also the best time for a safari as most of the game reserves are in our summer rainfall area. Thus in the dry winter the animals need to come to the waterholes to quench their thirst. And the bush is less thick. So this makes the game-viewing easier and more concentrated.
But here’s the kicker…As it is a quieter time to visit, many hotels and game lodges offer great special offers. So we’ve used the best of the offers to create these four amazing Winter and Spring, and even all year round Offers:
Winter Wonderland Offer
12 nights for the price of 9 (from mid-April to Sept)
Firstly here’s an offer which is only available in the winter & spring months from mid April to September. This winter offer adds up to a magnetic 12 nights for the price of only 9. We are offer this tour at two price points, Luxury and Premier. But it’s valid only from mid-April to September so don’t wait too long.
It starts in Cape Town with 3 nights (at either V&A Hotel for the luxury version or The Three Boutique Hotel for the Premier version). You then head to the scenic Winelands for 3 nights at either the Oude Werf Hotel in historic Stellenbosch.
Next you meander along to the Garden Route to Plettenberg Bay to stay at either The Robberg Beach Lodge – with its epic sea views – or at Hunters Country House. Finally the tour ends with a 3 night safari in the Eastern Cape at Amakhala Bukela Lodge or at Kariega Settlers Lodge.
Standard: Premier (4 star) or Luxury (5 star)
The South Africa Explorer
13 nights for the price of 10 (all year except the Festive Season)
The offer equates to 13 nights for the price of 10, so it’s well worth it. It’s also valid up until mid December. The tour is based on private transfers everywhere.
We’ve nicknamed this tour “the tour of the threes”. It visits three different areas of South Africa, mainly each for 3 nights, and less than 3 hours’ transfer away each other (plus one domestic flight).
You start in cosmopolitan Cape Town for 4 nights. Then you head up to the rugged Cederberg to stay at the magnificent Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve for 3 nights. Then you fly to the summer rainfall region of KwaZulu for change of both climate and vegetation. Summer rain means that the winters here are mild, dry and sunny. Stay at The Oyster Box Hotel on the golden sands of Umhlanga Rocks for 3 nights. Then take an easy transfer up to a Big Five game reserves to stay at Thanda Safari Lodge for the final 3 nights.
Standard: Luxury (5 star) with private transfers
Cape Kaleidoscope & Kruger Offer
12 nights for the price of 9 – valid all year except the Festive season
This one actually operates through the year, until just before Christmas! It is also very varied so it will suit all months of the year.
It juxtaposes three contrasting areas of the Cape with a top-notch safari in the Kruger at Timbavati Game Reserve. It starts with 3 nights in Cape Town. You then continue to the Cederberg staying at Cederberg Ridge Wilderness Lodge.
Then you head to the Garden Route but spending a night en route. You stay 3 nights at Fynbos on Sea with its epic ocean and lagoon views. Next you fly to the Kruger (currently via Johannesburg) where the tour ends with a superb safari experience in the Timbavati Game Reserve (Kruger) at Simbavati Hilltop Lodge.
As with some of our other South Africa Winter Offers, we have assumed the flexibility of a rental car in the Cape. However the safari part is transferred.
Standard: Premier (4 star) OR Luxury (5 star) with self-drive
The South Africa Collection Offer
10 nights for the price of 8 (from March to mid-Dec)
This was originally the South Africa in Spring offer. But now its available from March to mid Dec so a name-change was called for. But I feel that it really comes into its own in the late winter and spring when the whales are coming into Walker Bay to calve and when the fynbos is blooming in the Karoo. This is also when the prices are keenest as well.
This relaxing self-drive tour doesn’t involve any internal flights and is a series of easy drives. You start in Cape Town for 3 nights, based in the Constantia Winelands so you get to sample both the city, the wine estates and the mountain ambience. Then you head to the magnificent Whale Coast. Afterwards you head inland to the beautiful Karoo area where you enjoy a safari in the Sanbona Game Reserve. Finally you explore the scenic Garden Route.
You can choose whether you wish to do this on a self-drive basis (less expensive) or to have private transfers between destinations. It is entirely your preference.
Standard: Luxury 5-star – with self drive OR private transfers
